Celanese appeared on K 2013 under slogan 'The chemistry inside innovation™' and showed its plastics industry related activity. In this article, Hostaform POM, Fortron PPS and Riteflex and Thermx thermoplastic polyesters as well as applications of Celstran polymers are described.

Mechanical properties of recycled PET were modified by short glass fiber reinforcement and reactive impact modifier. The developed material has sufficient impact strength and tensile modulus for technical applications as well.

Bioplastics market grows above average to 2017. Strongest gain is expected in the biobased, nonbiodegradable bioplastics group. Biobased versions of bulk plastics in particular are significantly increasing capacities. The packaging market will remain the leading segment for bioplastics applications.

In the case of jute fabric reinforced epoxy resin composites cured with anhydride no improvement of mechanical properties could be detected with the NaOH treatment methods, however, the Tg values increased significantly. In the case of amine type curing agent the removal of lignin and hemicellulose from jute fabric was successful, however, the remarkable decrease of mechanical properties suggests that degradation occurred even after fiber treatment.

In this article we present briefly how the carbon nanotube structures can influence the characteristics of plastics with their excellent mechanical properties. We present a theoretical analysis for the nanostructures which have one or more weak cross-sections. These structures contain nanotube sections and nanotube junctions, too.

The shape memory effect of polymers can be induced by several external stimuli, such as heat, light, magnetic field etc. The application area of SMPs and related composites is wide, spanning from medical applications to space-technology. Polyurethanes represent the most versatile family of SMPs, since their synthesis is relatively simple via which the properties can be tailored. This paper introduced the working principle of SMPs and surveyed their applications and recent developments, including ours.
